Nervous System Regulation
Safe and Sound
Protocol
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based intervention designed to support the nervous system through acoustic stimulation. This non-invasive approach uses specially filtered music, delivered through headphones, to enhance nervous system regulation and promote connection, collaboration, and resilience. SSP sessions are complemented by remote integration support to facilitate a smoother transition for your nervous system.
Working with Darby
As an essential component of our work together, you will gain access to the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP). This program consists of 5 hours of specially designed music, spread over 10-21 days, with daily listening sessions of approximately 20-30 minutes at your convenience.
During your SSP journey, we will meet four times for 30-minute 1-on-1 sessions. These sessions are designed to support your integration of the SSP, introduce you to somatic practices, and help identify triggers and releases. This program offers a powerful introduction to your healing process and provides an opportunity to experience somatic coaching.
FAQ:
How Does SSP Reset the Nervous System?
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), grounded in Polyvagal Theory, is designed to recalibrate the nervous system, helping you achieve a Ventral Vagal state (calm, rest, and digest) more frequently. A flexible nervous system fosters homeostasis, enhances well-being, and supports social connections, resilience, and growth.
During the SSP, you will listen to specially filtered music through headphones, focusing on the frequency range of the human voice. This approach targets the vagus nerve, guiding your nervous system from a defensive state (fight, flight, or freeze) to a socially engaged state. As the nervous system re-tunes, you may experience a renewed sense of safety and calm, increasing your capacity for awareness, trust, and resilience.
How Long Does SSP Take?
The SSP involves 5 hours of listening to specifically filtered music over 10-21 days, or sometimes longer. This listening is done independently and integrated into our 1-on-1 sessions.
Do I Have To Do Therapy Too?
SSP can work alongside your ongoing therapy goals or on its own! If you are working with another Wholeness counselor, SSP can be integrated for a lower fee.
What Should I Expect?
The SSP is a dynamic and integrative process, allowing space for a wide range of experiences. These sessions activate your social engagement system, enhancing therapeutic outcomes and supporting physiological state regulation for greater resilience.
Do I Need To Bring Anything?
For your SSP sessions, you will need access to the internet, over-ear headphones, the Unyte app (available on iTunes or Google Play, access provided during our first session), and a quiet, calm space. Please review our list of recommended headphones before starting.
